Eifman takes on Fitzgerald
The acclaimed Russian choreographer heads to Costa Mesa with his brand new work, Tender is the Night. Based on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the story follows Dick and Nicole Diver, a glamorous American couple holidaying in France, whose life in forever changed by the group of jet-setting friends who surround them. Eifman's adaptation is set to a jazz score and promises to be yet another boldly innovative work.
Perhaps the most famous ballet choreographer of the modern era, Boris Eifman established his ballet company in 1977. It's sole purpose was to present works by him and him alone. Over the decades the company has toured the US extensively, their acclaimed works often based upon established literary classics. Past productions have included Onegine and The Seagull and are always brimming with violent, sharp choreography and moody examinations of lovelorn angst. Eifman himself describes his work as "psychological ballet".
