Here's To You Mrs Robinson
Oscar nominee Melanie Griffith (Chicago, Working Girl) takes on the iconic role of Mrs. Robinson in this stage adaptation of The Graduate. Adapted by Terry Johnson, it's a sly portrait of the widening generation-gap in 1960s America, with the recently graduated Benjamin Braddock feeling a deep despair at the banal path through life that awaits him. His unhappily married, middle-aged neighbor Mrs. Robinson recognises a fellow lost soul in Benjamin, and after a party one night, seduces him. The pair begin an affair, but all hell breaks loose when Benjamin falls for Mrs. Robinson's daughter Elaine.
Replete with a billowy Simon and Garfunkel soundtrack, and a star-making turn from unconventional leading man Dustin Hoffman, The Graduate was one of the defining films of the 1960s. This stage version, adapted by Terry Johnson, draws inspiration from both the movie and Charles Webb's original novel, and originally opened on Broadway in 2002, with Kathleen Turner and Jason Biggs leading the cast.
